5 Ways to Calm Down Before You Shoot Ballistic Missiles at Everyone

5 Ways to Calm Down Before You Shoot Ballistic Missiles at Everyone

I came across the term “Ice Glass Method” while reading the wonderful book “Predictably Irrational” by Dan Ariely. It is used for control the craving for excess shopping. In this method, the person has to put the credit card in a glass of water and then place it in the freezer.

When there will be hunger for spending money, the person has to wait for the ice to melt. Till the ice melts, the shopaholic spirit within that person vanishes. Though, credit card is not affected, but it is quite irrational way of holding the shopping monster within any person.

Now, let us connect this technique in our personal life. Whenever we become angry, we become like a ballistic missile thrashing all the things coming in our way. According to Merriam-Webster, the word ballistic means extremely and usually suddenly excited, upset and angry.

In this process, we don't care about anyone because the excess fire fuses all our wires. After destructing all the items, we feel awkward by the messy situation decorated by us. It is useless because it becomes too late to repent over all the dents.

Keep these five points in mind before shooting your ballistic missiles

1) Save it as a draft to calm down your inner monster

When we want to give a strong reply over mail to someone, write down the fiery material and save it in our drafts. It is a useful way because it gives us time to analyze the situation in an open manner.
It's useless to jump and dump all your relationship with the other person without understanding the problem. So, calm down your inner monster and analyze it.

2) Write it down and love your near and dear ones

Suppose, after working hard for the whole day, the devil boss comes to you and jerks you up and down by his/her volcanic comments. You carry this anger with you in your home because you can’t say anything to that devil.

Your innocent family members become the victim of your suppressed anger. Instead of puking your stress on your lovely family, it is better to write down your feeling on a piece of paper. This approach relieves your tension as you can say anything to your boss.

After writing, you will definitely feel good. This technique is useful to manage those people who are senior to you in the position.

3) Watch out for irritating people

This technique is useful when the irritating person is in front of us only. If we are throwing a stone in wet mud, then the dirt will come to our face only. So, it’s preferable to analyze and realize the situation from a broader point of view.

When we know that the other person is like that mud, it's better to ignore or give a smile by understanding his/her pitiable state. By extending the scene, we will get nothing in return, except for a shit loaded with crappy responses.

4) Is the environment suitable for anger?

How does it feel when your father scolds you in front of all relatives? Sometimes, while spitting out anger, we don't recognize the surroundings. Whenever we scold someone in front of all people, receiver gets a double blow.

If we sought out all frictions by having one on one interaction, the receiver realizes the mistakes properly. It's better to wait and watch your anger before spitting on someone else.

5) Think outside the box

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them – Albert Einstein

During anger, we create a never ending cycle of stress, anxiety and mess. We just need to come out of the anger trap and think about it in a broad manner. Do not create a box of doubts because you will not get any answers. It’s better to view the whole scenario by coming out of that box. You will definitely get your answers in a defined manner.

So buddies, how do you calm down your ballistic missiles?
