So there is a big scare with Microwave popcorn. I don't know much about all of the hype but I do know that some popcorn makers are changing their recipes to eliminate a chemical named Diacetyl. So, if you plan on eating a ton of microwave popcorn and inhaling the fumes, or if you just want to save a buck or two, you are in luck as I share the the DIY version.
Actually, although my wife has done this for years, I'll share the Instuctable version so perhaps you'll find a new site that you hadn't bumped into previously. They do have over 5,000 DIY projects posted you know...
First you will need the following ingredients:Microwave Popcorn: Home made, cheap and easy
1/4 cup of popping corn (generally $0.99 for a pound bag. This is enough to make at least 50 bags of microwave corn)
1 Teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
To taste - popcorn salt (it has finer granules than table salt with the same taste)
That is convenient if you are in the office and without a stove. If you are at home, the old school method is even cheaper. Just toss the oil and popping corn into a pot and slowly warm until the popping stops.
