A while back a reader emailed us with a great story sharing how he asked for a ton during the hiring process and because he was good, he made out like a bandit.
Well, in order to get to that point, the point of superiority, you probably need to know a little about winning the interviewer over. In today's world, a lot of first interviews are done over the phone. I mean, if you are a moron, the recruiter wants to know quickly before scheduling an hour long interview right?
Well, to ace the phone interview, let's see what Penelope says:
- Attend to your surroundings
- Dress for the part
- Stand up
- Prepare for the most obvious questions
- Don’t forget to close
To me, the best advice is "Stand Up". Motion creates emotion and when standing, I am a dramatically better speaker. Your results may vary.
You can read more on each of these points by reading the cleverly named, Five ways to do better in phone interview, by Penelope Trunk of Brazen Careerist. Alternatively, you can check out her book which I fully intend to buy when it comes out (no, she didn't pay me to say that!).
