As far as I am concerned, it's a rare breed that likes to speak in front of an audience. Jay gave us his public speaking tips but there are always more ways to ease the discomfort and prepare for the big day.
Kyle Pott, a Lifehack.org writer that I believe to be a fellow Illinois guy, lists a few tips that he's used.
"This article is going to be more than an “imagine the audience in their underwear” guide. Although some of these tips you might consider commonsensical, they helped me get over my fear of public speaking and hopefully you can walk away with some actionable advice."
- Practice your speech in front of a mirror
- Practice your speech facing a wall
- Practice with a friend
- Practice with a peer (non-friend)
- Record yourself
- Do a dry run
- Don’t only practice in front of your family
All in all, it means a lot of practice. To dig a little deeper into each of these, hit up Lifehack.org for How to get over your fear of public speaking.
