One of the first blogs I ever subscribed to was Lifehack.org and it's still a daily read for me. A few days ago they posted 26 no-nonsense things that us common-folk could do to help keep Windows and our PCs running smoothly.
Categorized in a weekly, monthly, quarterly, (etc.) format, it's simply a nice checklist to keep handy.
Here is a handful of the tasks they included on their weekly checklist. As you can see, not too technical.
- Run a disk scan to check for hard drive issues
- Run a defragmentation program
- Run a clean up to delete unneeded files
- Back up your files to a remote location
- Empty your recycle bin
- Delete your Internet files
