18 Ways to search for Photos on Flickr

8/16: Added Loc.alize.us

I take a lot of photos and for the most part, I use Flickr daily. Here is a list of 17 18 sites that I have used and generally had success with. My favorite at this point is Flickr Storm.

New search sites are being built every week (or so it seems) so if you know of a good alternative that is not listed or if you are building one, let us know and we'll check it out.

  • Air Tight InterActive - Pretty cool flash page that searches by tags and has clustered results.

  • Ajax CFC Flickr Search - Search and also add Flickr Search to your site or blog.

  • Bashr - searches Flickr, Wikipedia and del.icio.us by keyword. Note: I never had this issue in the past, but 5 minutes ago this thing stalled on me 4 times in a row. Figured I would still list it in case they fix it.

  • Bubblr - Search Flickr by tag or user name. Then add cartoon bubbles if you are into that sort of thing.

  • Flex 1.5 Photo Search - Created with Flex 1.5. Search by keyword, tag, date.

  • Flickr.com/Search - Well it does search flickr right?

  • Flickr Leech - Allows for search using many variables (date, user, URL, photo pool, etc.)

  • Flickrlilly - Old school looking search. Displays images based on keyword and allows for downloading.

  • Flickr Search with Macromedia Flash - What it sounds like...

  • Flickrscrape - Enter a keyword and it shows you Flickr photos in Flash. No real function but ok to good to at.

  • Flickr Storm - Search, save, download. Search results show 'related' photos as well so your odds of finding something you want are increased.

  • Flyr - Search Geotagged Flickr Photos.

  • Groupr - Search by screenname.

  • Keaura Photosearch - Created with Adobe Flex 2 beta. Search by keyword, tag, date.

  • loc.alize.us - Shows a map of the world and where pictures are added. Search by user and geotag.

  • Retrievr - you draw a sketch and Retreivr searches for similar designs on Flickr.

  • Tagfetch - Doesn't exclusively search Flickr, but it does search it nevertheless.

  • Tagtree / Findr - Enter a tag and it lists a ton of related tags and begins showing images. Kind of handy.
