This morning I was cleaning our the Firefox bookmark folder and I ran into Easy2DIY. If I had been smart, I would have saved to del.icio.us in my home project folder. I didn't and subsequently painted a room without consulting this calculator. Yes, now I have 2 extra gallons just sitting here and I wasted $50.
Anyway, Easy2DIY has a simple to use and comprehensive calculator that estimates how much paint you will need to buy for your project. Just enter room dimension, # of windows, etc. and hit calculate.

Why don't your return the unused paint? Most stores allow this.
I actually tried but because it was a custom color they wouldn't take it back. If it was just a white satin or something they would have.
