Couple tips for Negotiating with a Car Salesman

You can never obtain enough advice when it comes to negotiating for a car. I have very little absolutely no understanding of the process so I actually have my father-in-law do the haggling. He's got some skills that's for sure. Maybe the old guy will write a how-to for us one day in between beers.

Anyway, Bankrate shares 5 simple things to consider when negotiating for your next car. Here are 2 of their points summarized in my words:

- Be prepared: Do not just walk in and impulse buy a car. Do some homework and know what the options cost, what the dealer paid for the car, and what incentives the manufacturer is giving the dealer.

- Leave wiggle room: NEVER tell the dealer what you are willing to pay. Let them give you their price first, then you counter. Your counter should never be the price you want to pay because this negotiation will be several rounds..Key is to not show your cards.
