I am still in the camp that says Running is not for me. I will blame it on a bad knee and throw in the Asthma excuse (even though it's been years since I've had any issues). Nevertheless, each morning at 6AM I see people jogging up and down my street and my wife has become one of them. One day grasshopper, I will run. It's just a matter of time. For those that can get past their excuses and general laziness, Chris Brogan lists some good tips to consider before you head out for the first time.
His tips include thoughts on Trail VS. Street, Run VS. Walk, and even the right shoes to wear. Visit Chris' post at Lifehack.org for the details or you can subscribe to his Fat Guys Get Fit podcast.

Speaking as a member of the bad knees and asthma club, I have a suggestion: Bicycling!
Good things about cycling:
1) No impact
2) Way more fun than running (just my opinion, but, how many joggers do see smiling?)
3) Great cardio workout (I'm a 40 year old, former 2 pack a day smoker and my resting heart rate is now in the low 40's)
4) Bike can replace car for many <5 mile trips. No real time penalty, and with $3 a gallon gas, the cash savings can be substantial.
It's good for the mind and body, good for the wallet, and good for the planet! What's not to like?
Greg - great suggestion. I actually decided to begin riding my bike to work at least once per week. I also found one of those kid-riders that you can attach to your bike so we've been taking nightly bike rides after applying a can of mosquito spray.
