I wanted to take a second from your day to introduce a new bonus plan for all DLM writers. In short, the articles with the most pageviews over the previous 30 days will receive a bonus. So here is how the payouts will work:
1st Place: $200
2nd Place: $75
3rd Place: $50
4th Place: $25
To show a real world example, let's look at October of 2008. Here is how the payouts would have worked that month:
1st Place: $200 - 4 Important Data Backup Strategies for your PC / 19,103 / Abhijeet
2nd Place: $75 - 10 Ways to Improve Yourself When Broke / 11,671 / Alex
3rd Place: $50 - Steve Jobs' 10 Secrets to Building an Empire / 5,571 / Alex
4th Place: $25 - 9 Secret Ways to Persuade and Influence People / 5,375 / Stuart
Now, I expect you to have questions so let me try to answer a couple that I expect:
Q: Are you including articles you've written or older articles in the rankings?
A: No. In the example above, the 1st place winner is actually ranked #3 when I include previous articles. I am filtering out everything that was not published within the last 60 days or written by me. This prevents someone from being penalized simply because their article was published on the last day of this month.
Q: Can the same article win twice?
A: Yes but it is limited to 2 consecutive months.
Q: How will we know if we've earned an award?
A: I will send an email announcing the winners to everyone on a monthly basis.
Q. Is this permanent?
A. I plan on keeping this system unless online advertising falls off a cliff due to the economy or in the event that I get let go from my job (clearly I hope neither occur).
Q. Who is eligible for this?
A. Anyone that submits an article to DLM (as long as you have a paypal account). You do not have to be a regular writer to be eligible. Good content wins.
Q. Does this replace the old bonus system?
A. Yes, this is the only bonus that will be paid. Older bonus systems are outdated so I am switching this so that everyone has a chance at actually getting paid a bonus.
